CELL DIVISION
I’ll walk you through cell division from the beginning, like you’ve never seen it before.
🌱 What is Cell Division?
Cell division is the process by which a single cell splits into two or more new cells. It’s how living
things grow, heal, and even reproduce.
There are two main types of cell division:
1. Mitosis – used for growth and repair.
2. Meiosis – used for making sperm and egg cells (for reproduction).
Let’s start with mitosis, since it’s simpler.
🔁 Mitosis: For Growth & Repair
Think of mitosis like a copy machine. It makes two identical cells from one.
Why use mitosis?
To grow bigger (like a child growing taller).
To replace damaged or dead cells (like healing a cut).
To keep tissues healthy (skin, blood, etc.).
The 5 Steps of Mitosis
1. Prophase – The cell gets ready. DNA coils into visible chromosomes.
2. Metaphase – The chromosomes line up in the middle.
3. Anaphase – The chromosomes get pulled apart to opposite sides.
