The Doors:
● ‘The End’ released in 1867 was written by Jim Morrison about his girlfriend who
followed him from South Florida to California to find their ‘hippie’ Mekkah, as a send-
off to their breakup
● Morrison stated that he could see the song as a goodbye to childhood, but others say
it is about death, but in reality, the meaning is a lot more obscured
● The song also has Oedipal notions when talking about his mother and father, but is
rather seen by his bandmates as a piece of Greek theatre rather than Freudian
psychology
● The New Haven Incident:
○ Morrison became the first rock star to be arrested on stage when he was
arrested in December 9th 1967 after being found by a police officer with a girl
in a shower stall. Words were exchanged between the two and Morrison was
maced. This delayed the show and half way through the show, Morrison
recounted the event which belittled the police, leading him to being arrested
on charged of indecency and public obscenity, later being dropped due to
lack of evidence.
● Morrison has been arrested multiple times while he was 16 for drunk behaviour and
resisting arrest
● The Miami Incident
○ Morrison had been drinking all day and arrived late to the venue. The venue
was extremely small with 12000 people in an auditorium made for 7000.
There was no air conditioning on a very hot day and the crowd was going
crazy. The manager described the event as "The gig was a bizarre, circus-
like thing, there was this guy carrying a sheep and the wildest people that
I'd ever seen". And the equipment chief stating, "Somebody jumped up
and poured champagne on Jim so he took his shirt off, he was soaking
wet. 'Let's see a little skin, let's get naked,' he said, and the audience
started taking their clothes off. One thing led to another." On March 5th, an
arrest warrnent was issued for Morrison claiming he exposed himself on
stage and simulated oral sex on Krieger, goeing sentences 6 months and
a $500 fine. After his death he was pardonned of this as non of these
claims were true
● Morrison is known as being a part of the 27 club, as well as supposedly faking his
won death to escape the wolrd that he had grown tired of. Nobody had seen his
body, he was never goven an autopsy and was said to have died of heart failure
in Paris. In reality he died of a heroin overdose
● Coppola used The End as a way to bring about the chaos and commotion to the
beginning of the film to simulate the mayhem of the set as well as the Vietnam
war
● The opening scene cells were in the bin when the sound editor said that wouldn’t
it be funny if we used The End at the beginning of the film
