1. Introduction
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) examines how people engage with computing
systems, focusing on design, evaluation, and implementation to improve usability and
user experience (Preece et al., 2015). Underlying this field is the philosophical stance
that technology should adapt to human capabilities and limitations rather than force
users to adapt. This assignment critically analyses key HCI concepts including interface
design errors, learnability principles, constraints, usability testing, interface types, and
multimedia benefits in health contexts. The analysis integrates theory, examples, and
critical insights to explore practical, conceptual, and ethical implications for designing

1.1 QWERTY Keyboard Arrangement
The QWERTY layout originated in the 1870s for mechanical typewriters, with keys
arranged to minimise jamming by separating frequently paired letters, not to maximise
typing speed (Norman, 2013). The underlying assumption was that mechanical
constraints should dictate design choices. This highlights a philosophical tension: while
QWERTY solved mechanical limitations, it remains dominant despite modern keyboards
no longer requiring such layouts.
