answered.
QUESTION 1 [25] 1.1 Fine motor abilities that involve using the smaller
muscles in the fingers and hand for actions such as holding a pencil or
fastening buttons, only develop after gross motor abilities, such as crawling,
jumping, and running. Develop an activity that will allow children to develop
gross motor skills. List the resources that you will need when developing the
activity, explain how you will set up the activity to allow for the development
of gross motor skills. Take a photo of the activity and paste it on the space
provided.
QUESTION 1.1 [25 marks] that outlines an activity designed to develop gross motor skills in
children, including the necessary resources, setup, and objectives. Since I cannot take or
provide a real photo, you can create the activity as described and take a photo for your
submission.
Activity Title: “Obstacle Course Adventure”
Age Group: 3 – 6 years
Gross Motor Skills Targeted: Crawling, jumping, balancing, running, climbing
Resources Needed:
Cones or plastic bottles (to mark boundaries)
, Hula hoops
Small hurdles or pool noodles (for jumping over)
Balance beam (or a wooden plank placed on the ground)
Tunnel (can use a play tunnel or large cardboard box)
Beanbags or soft balls
Mats or blankets (for safe landing zones)
Setup and Instructions:
1. Start Line: Mark the start of the course with two cones.
2. Crawling Section: Set up a tunnel or large cardboard box for children to crawl through.
3. Jumping Section: Place 2–3 small hurdles (using pool noodles or low objects) spaced
out for jumping over.
4. Balancing Section: Lay down a balance beam or wooden plank on the grass for children
to walk across.
5. Throwing Target: Place a bucket or hoop and provide beanbags or soft balls for children
to throw into the target from a short distance.
6. Final Dash: Mark a final short sprint section (about 5 meters) to run to the finish line.
How This Activity Supports Gross Motor Development:
Crawling: Strengthens arms, legs, and coordination.
Jumping: Builds leg strength and balance.
Balancing: Enhances core stability and body control.
Throwing: Develops upper body coordination and spatial awareness.
Running: Improves cardiovascular fitness and gross motor coordination.

that safety measures are in place.)
Assessment Tips:
When writing your answer:
Use clear headings for Resources, Setup, and Purpose.
Keep safety in mind (soft surfaces, adult supervision).
, Mention how children are encouraged and guided through the activity.
If working in a group, describe how teamwork and turn-taking are built in.
Activity: "Animal Adventure Obstacle Course"
This activity encourages children to use their whole bodies in various ways, promoting balance,
coordination, strength, and agility.
1. Resources Needed:
Pillows/Cushions: (4-6 large ones) For stepping over and soft landings.
Blankets/Towels: (2-3) To create tunnels or soft surfaces for crawling.
Hula Hoops: (2-3) For jumping in and out of or stepping through.
Small Cones or Markers: (4-6, or substitute with small toys/shoes) To mark a path or
designated areas.
Stuffed Animals or Toys: (2-3) To act as "animals" to be rescued or obstacles to
maneuver around.
Masking Tape or Painter's Tape: To create lines on the floor for balancing.
Music Player (optional): To add an element of fun and rhythm.
2. Activity Setup to Allow for the Development of Gross Motor Skills:
The obstacle course will be set up in a way that encourages different gross motor movements:
Start/Finish Line: Use masking tape to mark a clear start and finish line on the floor.
"River Crossing" (Balancing):
o Lay two parallel lines of masking tape on the floor, about 6-8 inches apart,
stretching for 5-6 feet. This encourages walking on a narrow path, developing
balance and coordination.
"Mountain Climb" (Stepping Over):
o Arrange 2-3 pillows or cushions in a staggered line. Children will have to step
over these, promoting high knee lifting and balance.
"Bear Crawl Tunnel" (Crawling/Low Movements):
o Drape a blanket over two chairs or small furniture items to create a low tunnel.
Children will need to crawl through this, engaging core muscles and coordination.
