Management in Foundation Phase
QUESTION 1: Understanding Key Concepts
1.1 Leadership (2)
Leadership is the ability to guide, inspire, and influence others to work towards a
common goal. A good leader motivates people, makes important decisions, and sets a
clear vision for a team or organization. In schools, leadership is important because it
ensures that learners, teachers, and staff work together in a structured and supportive
environment.
1.2 Diversity (2)
Diversity refers to the differences among people, including aspects such as culture,
race, gender, religion, language, and abilities. In a school setting, diversity means that
learners come from different backgrounds and have different needs. It is important to
respect and embrace these differences to create an inclusive learning environment
where everyone feels valued.
1.3 School Governing Body (SGB) (2)
The School Governing Body (SGB) is a group of elected members, including parents,
teachers, non-teaching staff, and sometimes learners (in secondary schools), who help
manage the school. Their role is to make important decisions about school policies,
finances, and the overall management of the school to ensure that learners receive
quality education.
