Greg is op Doktor Pienaar se rekenaar deur
die RAT. ‘n Rilling trek deur sy lyf. Hy weet
dat hy nooit in John se voetspore kan volg
of sy pa se verwagtinge kan voldoen nie.
Met die RAT kan Greg nou einge tyd
toegang tot Dok se rekenaar kry, al
verander hy sy wagwoord. Greg laai ‘n
sleutelbordlogger op Dok se rekenaar af
sodat elke sleutel wat hy druk na Greg se
epos gestuur sal word. TJ klop aan Greg se
deur. Greg keer hom by die deur sodat hy
nie kan sien waarmee hy besig is nie. TJ
het oor Greg se dyspier besering kom hoor
en herhinner hom dat hy daar is as Greg wil gesels. Greg belowe om oor ‘n uur saam met TJ in
die formele sitkamer skaak te speel. TJ wil weet waarmee Greg op sy rekenaar besig is, maar
Greg sê hy sal hom op ‘n ander dag vertel.
Greg sien dat Doktor Pienaar laas besig met sy eposse op Outlook was. Eckardt het vir Greg
vertel dat kuberkrakers nooit Outlook gebruik nie. Hulle gebruik liewer epos programme soos
Pine of Mutt omdat dit beter is. Greg lees vinnig deur van die eposse. Dis meestal skoolgoed
soos ‘n Trapper wat nie uit Die Tonnel self kon kom nie huis toe gegaan het omdat hy afgesny
voel. Greg kom af op ‘n geïnkripteerde epos. Hy vind nog twee. Greg soek vir die sleutel om die
eposse te dekripteer op Dok se rekenaar maar kry dit nie. Hy sien naderhand dat daar ‘n
geheuestokkie in die rekenaar geprop is. Greg vind die sleutel daarop in ‘n lêer. Greg weet dat hy
moet afteken omdat hoe langer hy op die rekenaar spandeer, hoe groter is die kans dat hy
gevang sal word. Hy besluit om wel die geïnkripteerde eposse in Dok se argief op ‘n anonieme
FTP databasis af te laai sodat hy later daarna kan kyk. ‘n Stem binne Greg moedig hom aan om
meer lêers af te laai. Greg wag angstig vir alles om af te laai. Net toe hy uiteindelik wou afteken
sien hy ‘n program oopmaak. Dit beteken dat Doktor Pienaar nou op sy rekenaar is.

Chapter 21 - Doc’s files
Greg is on Doctor Pienaar’s laptop through the
RAT. A thrill flows through his body. He knows
that he will never follow in John’s footsteps and
never meet his dad’s expectations. With the RAT
Greg can now access Doc’s laptop at any time
even if the password changes. Greg downloads
a keylogger onto Doc’s laptop so records of all
the keys he hits will be emailed to Greg. TJ
knocks on Greg’s door. Greg stops him at the
door so he can’t see what he’s busy with on his
laptop. TJ came to hear about Greg’s hamstring injury and to remind him that he’s there if Greg
needs to talk. Greg promises to play chess with TJ in the formal lounge in an hour. TJ wants to
know what Greg is doing on his laptop, but Greg says he will tell TJ on another day.
Greg sees that Doctor Pienaar was busy with his emails on Outlook last. Eckardt told Greg that
hackers never use Outlook. They rather use mail programmes like Pine of Mutt because it’s
better. Greg skims over the emails. Most of it is about school things, like a Trapper who couldn’t
get out of The Tunnel himself who went home because he felt cut off. Greg finds an encrypted
email. He finds two more. Greg searches for the key to decrypt them on Doc’s laptop but doesn’t
find it. He eventually sees that a flash drive is plugged into the laptop. He finds the key in a
folder. Greg knows that he needs to log off since the longer he spends on the laptop, the greater
the chances are of him being caught. He decides to download the encrypted emails, and the
emails in Doc’s archive to an anonymous FTP database so he can look at it later. A voice inside
Greg encourages him to download even more files. Greg waits anxiously for everything to
download. Just when he was about to log off, he sees a programme open. That means that
Doctor Pienaar is now on his laptop.
