Module Three Short Answer
Emma vs Clueless
1. Emma is set in 19th century England, while Clueless is a newer movie, set in Beverly Hills Ca.
in 1995. The plot of the movies illustrates the importance of personal growth by using the theme
of social status and moral worth. Both girls are from the rich, high class society and cultural elite.
Money is important to both girls because they are both spoiled, vain, and feel socially superior.
Both girls try to play matchmaker for their friends. The difference between Emma and Clueless
is the way situations in the plot of the story are illustrated and the different time frame they are
set in.
2. The female characters in Emma are dressed in large frivolous dresses and the men are dressed
in suits. They travel around by horse and buggy and the men act respectful and the dialect and
tone they use all reflect the culture and time period in which it exists. In Clueless they wear
modern clothes, the main character drives around in a jeep, and the men are not very respectful
to the women. They use modern slang when then speak all of this reflects the culture and time
period in which it exists as well.
3. The artifact I have chosen is the molcajete, a stone food griding tool that dates back 1000
years to the Aztec era and is still used in Mexico today. My question would be what kind of tools
did they use to make the molcajetes? I plan to research the topic to see if I can find an answer to
my question.
