1.1 Discuss the following theories, by naming the theorist and explaining the
importance or relevance of each theory to teachers. In other words, how does
awareness of this theory enable teachers to be more effective?
1.1.1 Hierarchy of needs
One theory that is important for teachers to be aware of is the Hierarchy of Needs
theory by psychologist Abraham Maslow. This theory suggests that individuals
have different levels of needs that must be met in a hierarchical order, starting
with basic physiological needs and progressing to higher-level needs such as self-
actualization.

struggle to focus on learning if their basic needs are not met. For example, a
student who is hungry or feeling unsafe may not be able to fully engage in the
