Proclamation of 1763 : issued by London government to prohibit settlements in areas beyond Appalachians as a result of the tensions between colonists and American Indians. Colonist rebelled and marched westward through North Carolina decreasing the impact of British rule. Stamp Act : Act made by British Parliament in 1756 imposing tax on American colonies mandating use of stamped paper or affixing of stamps. British passed act because the empire was in great debt after Seven Years' War. Quartering Act : Act passed by Britain requiring American colonies to accommodate British troops with supplies, food, or housing. Another violation of individual rights and private property of colonies. No taxation without representation : A slogan or battle cry that Americans used in anger of the principles that were being pushed by British Parliament stemming from Stamp Act virtual representation : British response and idea pushed by George Grenville where every Parliament member encompasses British subjects including American colonists. Members simply had the well being of the colonists in mind. 3 Townshend Acts : series of acts by Britain Parliament in 1767 pushed by Charles Townshend. Series pushed to put light taxes on lead, paper, paint, and tea. Despite it being an act that raises revenue in colonies, colonists still viewed this taxation as an abuse of power. Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania : Series of essays written by John Dickinson including twelve letters largely referenced within the 13 colonies. It helped unite British colonists together against Townshend Acts. They explain that colonies were sovereign from Parliament's grasp. Nonimportation agreements : Series of commercial restrictions by American colonists who were complaining and protesting against British empire for revenue policies.
