The article that I used for the Critically Appraised Topic (CAT) worksheet was from
Lindeboom et al. (2002) which reviewed the efficacy of the Visual Association Test (VAT) to
detect early dementia (Alzheimer’s type).
I initiated the CAT review by following the steps outlined in Bowden et al. (2014).
Answering Part 1 of the worksheet was relatively easy. It focused on the validity of the study
results. I kept the CAT questions nearby while I read the article and this really helped to
focus my reading and keep me on track during the process. Part 1 made me consider the
study’s methodology and patient selection in much more detail than I would have previously
considered and this allowed me to approach the article with a more critical eye than before.
