Describe key aspects of public health strategies (P1)
In this part of my assignment I am going to be describing the key aspects of
public health strategies, "public health can assist the government to
determine programmes they need to implement in certain areas in order to
reduce the risk of disease. These are usually early screening problems". The
public health focuses on 3 specifc areas; protection, promotion and
prevention. Public health has successfully increased life expectancy by 30
years between the period of 1900-1999. I am now going to describe the key
aspects.
There are a few things that afect our health such as our choice in foods, our
peer group, our personal choice, our environment, our lifestyle etc. Eating
well, keeping active and productive, getting a good night’s sleep are
examples of how we keep ourselves and our families healthier. On paper, this
sounds straightforward – in practice, it is far more complex.
To begin with, identifying the health needs of the population. This means
researching more information and creating policies. For example, ways to
tackle illnesses such as diabetes and cancer. In order to tackle these
illnesses, it's Important to have a lot of health care professionals, so another
dentifcation might be is there a need for more doctors and nurses in order
for this to occur.
Public health allows us to gain a better idea of the health concerns in our
local communities. In each community there are diferent groups requiring
diferent health needs. For example, homeless groups in communities might
have diferent health needs in comparison to "gypsies"/travellers community
also diferent to Rastafarians. Another example would be lack of blood donors
for those coming from African/Carribean backgrounds, a greater need for sex
education and advice for young people.
Alongside this, the Public Health has created programmes to reduce health
risk strategies in linkage to pollution. These include trying to tackle air
pollution in London, the introduction to the congestion charge and T Charge,
