In this assignment I will be suggesting with justification, of ways in which
Debenhams can modify and improve motivational techniques and
associated reward systems used within the organisation.
Personal Judgment on the value of monitoring and managing
employees
It is significant for managers to monitor and manage their employees as
workers may start to lose focus and slack at the job. This would let the
company down as the performance level would be bad. Performance
management allows both employer and employee come to an agreement of
goals they think the employee need to develop in. This would improve the
employees’ general performance and make sure that they are always
delivering good customer service. If managers don’t monitor their
employees’ performance the staff may start to take advantage by relaxing
at their job and not taking it seriously. They may think that because the
manger has not picked up on their performance they do not need to
improve and therefore will carry on. If they are performing well however
want to progress but their mangers are not giving them any feedback the
employees may feel bored of the job and lack interest in it and as a result
feel unvalued and lose motivation for the job.
How Debenhams can improve their motivational techniques
Debenhams motivate their workers in a number of ways however I think that
they can improve their employee motivation by teaming them up. For
example the fragrance department in Debenhams can be teamed in two
separate groups to see which of them makes the most sales. By doing this the
employees will feel competitive with one another and would want their team
to win. In addition it also builds team bonding skills as the employees will help
one another to make sales. At the end of the week they can see which team has
won and the manger can reward them. Furthermore by doing this the
manager can also see the strong candidates in the team and see who works
well with whom. The manger can also mix the teams up every week therefore
all the employees are mixing with one another and can pick up skills from
each other. Not only does this create a positive atmosphere but it will also
deliver result as the teams will be eager to make sales. As a result the profits
will rise in the company.

employees more responsibilities. By doing this the staffs will feel more
