- ‘Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling coercive or threatening
behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have
been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality’

● Statistics on domestic violence
- Women’s aid federation(2014)→ Domestic violence accounts for between a
sixth and a quarter of recorded violent crime(domestic violence is too
widespread)
- Crime Survey for England and Wales(2013)→two million reports recorded
of domestic abuse
- Crime survey for England and Wales(2013)→relatively narrow gender
gap→7.3% of women(1.2 million) compared to 5% of men(800,000)
reported having experienced domestic abuse in the previous year

● Kathy Koleman et al(2007)
- Women were more likely to experience ‘intimate violence’ across all four
types of abuse→partner abuse, family abuse, sexual assault and stalking

● Coleman and Osborne(2010)
