7.2 FUNCTION OF TRANSPORT
The function of transport: providing mobility and accessibility.

Mobility – refers to the movement of Accessibility – refers to the convenience

Function of Transport 3 types:

Inbound transport Includes raw materials or components
from suppliers to the plant and is done in
bulk by water, rail or road transport in
large load
On-site transport Consist of transfer vehicles or mobile
robots that take pallets or break-bulk
units (cartons/bags/drums) from the raw
material store to the production line. Also
takes finished goods from final production
to the finished goods store.
Outbound transport The finished goods on pallets in
containers or tautliner trucks (or
curtainsider trucks) to distribution
centers of full truck or container loads.
