- From French meaning rebirth. Here from ancient Greek and Roman culture.
- Period of great art, literature, scientific, discoveries, voyages/ explorations, religious
reform
Where and when?
- Started in Italy (Florence) around 1450 till 1550
- Reached England around 1500 till 1660 - thomas more
Causes:
- fall constantinople (1453)
- spreading knowledge/ education and printing press
- black death
- lessing feudalism
Differences with Middle Ages:

Theocentric (religion as the center) Anthropocentric (man as the center)

several areas. -> In modern time= James Bond, Iron Man, Winston Churchill. In

- Was a Renaissance Man (intelligent, composer, educated, spoke many languages
etc). Loved to read and write and loved art and culture and brought many artists from
mainland to court
- Thomas More was his mentor
- Legacy: fact that he had 6 wives and founded the Anglican church (church of
England) because the Pope wouldn’t grant hi a divorce
