Pretty easy marks doing arithmetic P E M D A
Nervous System
Central- Along centre axis of body
o Brain
Cerebrum
Biggest part- responsible for higher functions; memory, thought,
reasoning, emotions, language, learning
Receives sensory information from body and initiates voluntary
movement (consciously aware of it)
Cerebellum
Second largest section
Adjusts and fine tunes movement- helps coordinate movements
initiated by Cerebrum; helps with balance, posture, and complex
reflexes
Brain Stem
DO NOT DAMAGE- CAUSES DEATH
Works with Diencephalon
Responsible for basic functions on subconscious level; heart rate,
coughing, vomiting, blood pressure
Midbrain
Pons
Medulla
Diencephalon
Assist with sensory input and relay back to Cerebrum
Involved in sleep regulation; anger, aggression
Thalamus
Hypothalamus
Pituitary Gland
o Helps with homeostasis; temperature regulation and digestion
o Spinal Cord- Continuation of brain stem; conducts sensory information from peripheral
nervous system and brings it to brain
Cervical
Thoracis
Lumbar
Sacral (Stops before Coccygeal)
Peripheral- Away from centre of body; link between central nervous system and rest of body
o Spinal Nerves- Come off of spinal cord and supply the extremities (font leg, back leg, tail,
etc...)
Radial Nerve- Beside Ulna; funny bone
Femoral Nerve- Beside Femur
Sciatic Nerve- Goes down centre of hind leg
Mostly in skeletal muscle
MUST KNOW WHERE THEY ARE TO PREVENT PARALYSIS AND PAIN WHEN
ADMINISTERING INJECTIONS
