Assessment Scenario : ABC education is a developing educational institution in Sri Lanka. The institute has to allocate a budget for its infrastructural development, which is planned to be executed sooner. The institute’s main branch consists of 5 departments/divisions namely. Head office consists of the below divisions Student affairs division (5 Member) Human Resources division (5 Member) Examinations division (5 member) IT faculty (20 Members) Administration department (15 Member) In addition to these lecture (10) halls and labs (100 PCs) are available in the premises. Additionally a branch situated in a 20 km distance away from the main campus consists: Student laboratories: computer (50 Pcs) Finance division (2 Member) Lecture halls (5) In this plan each division is going to get interconnected as appropriately. Then all departments has the connectivity to the main server. Server is kept purposive for the data storage, user accounts, website and email etc... The new implementation also consists of a CCTV (Closed-circuit television) camera system using the IP cameras. Wi-Fi facility is provided for students and staff members and network services are monitored using a centralized system and is metered using a monitoring system. Note: I got a Distinction for this assignment.

Head office consists of the below divisions

1. Student affairs division (5 Member)
2. Human Resources division (5 Member)
3. Examinations division (5 member)
4. IT faculty (20 Members)
5. Administration department (15 Member)

In addition to these lecture (10) halls and labs (100 PCs) are available in the premises.

Additionally a branch situated in a 20 km distance away from the main campus consists:

1. Student laboratories: computer (50 Pcs)
2. Finance division (2 Member)
3. Lecture halls (5)

In this plan each division is going to get interconnected as appropriately . Then all
departments has the connectivity to the main server. Server is kept purposive for the data storage, user
accounts, website and email etc... The new implementation also consists of a CCTV (Closed-circuit
television) camera system using the IP cameras. Wi-Fi facility is provided for students and
staff members and network services are monitored using a centralized system and is metered using a
monitoring system.

Task 1
You are required to produce a report that includes the following:

1. An introduction to provide an overview of your report.

2. An explanation of followings,
• Discuss about different network types, standards and topologies. Identify most suitable
protocols and topology to be used in the proposed network.
• Identify the bandwidth requirement for the proposed network and select suitable type
of communication channels.
• Discuss about the different network devices and server types and select suitable
networking devices and server types for the proposed network.
• Discuss about network software and select appropriate networking software for the
proposed network.

Task 2

As the principal designer for the above network system, analyses the specification to propose the
completion of this project within a given timeframe. To do so:

Part 1 Design efficient networked systems

1. Prepare a written step-by-step plan of how you are going to design a Local Area
Network including a blueprint of your LAN.
2. Justify your choice of devices for your network design.
3. Produce a test plan to evaluate this design for the requirements of bandwidth and
cost constraints as per user specifications.
4. Justify the security requirements and quality of services needed for selection of
accessories.
5. Suggest a maintenance schedule to support the networked system.

Part 2 Implement test and diagnose networked systems

1. Implement a networked system based on your prepared design.
2. Conduct verification with e.g. Ping, extended ping, trace route, telnet, SSH, etc.
3. Record the test results and analyses these against expected results.
4. Investigate what functionalities would allow the system to support device growth
and the addition of communication devices.
5. Discuss the significance of upgrades and security requirements in your
recommendations.
