What led to your current perspective and direction? The application of SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation) strategy is vital in creating a long-lasting solution to the existing poor patient care at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in central Phoenix. The use of SBAR addresses the problem of ineffective communication during handoffs (Maraccini 67). The use of SBAR is not a new concept per-se, but involves a comprehensive analogy of the hospital environment and nurses' role in the hospital setting. Ineffective communication is a skill that nurses must work on and adjust. The issue being addressed is the fumbled handoffs from preoperative activities to surgery as a result of ineffective communication. The exhibited problem by the nurses forms the main course of the issue, which is being addressed. Therefore, offering a solution will see quality improvement among the patients, thus reducing surgical and death tolls in hospitals. The proposed solutions for the problem include the digitalization of handoffs and the limited transfer of patients.
