In 2008, women experienced intimate partner violence at a rate of 4.3 per 1000 females ages 12 or older and males at a rate of 0.8 per 1000 males (Female Victims of Violence, 2008). In recent years, violent crimes such as rape have shown the same disparity amongst female and male victims. Females at colleges and universities have suffered at the hands of people that they call friends. A 2017 study looked into the number of female students who reported rape while enrolled. Fifteen percent of undergraduate females at the University of Texas at Austin reported being raped (For the Record, 2017).
