Review Vincent Brody’s laboratory results. Which results are abnormal? Discuss how these results relate to his clinical presentation and chronic disease process. The clients pH, PaCO2 and PaO2 were off showing that he had respiratory acidosis w/o compensation and is hypoxic. 5. What are safety considerations when caring for a patient with a chest tube? Checking it is working properly without any air leaks, assess the insertion site, dressing , suction level, drainage and fluctuation. 6. What key elements would you include in the handoff report for this patient? Consider the SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation format. The patient was brought in for exacerbation of his COPD had left lung pneumothorax, had a chest tube inserted and is stabilized. I administered albuterol to help his respiration and morphine for pain prior to the chest tube insertion. The client is stable with no new conditions recommend monitoring constantly for adverse effects from medication and further respiratory issues. 7. What patient teaching priorities would be important in the patient experiencing an acute exacerbation of COPD? Let them know what signs and symptoms are of pneumothorax along signs that the clients should notify a nurse about and not to withhold vital information. 8. For a patient with COPD who is stable, what resources would you recommend? I would recommend the internet to read more info about the seriousness of COPD along with providing some literature
