Essay 1984
Would you expect that your biggest enemy is your biggest hero at the same time?
In the book 1984 of George Orwell, Winston adores a man named O’Brien and looks
up to him and his ideas. Towards the end of the book it becomes clear that O'Brien is
not honest about his identity and tries to change Winston’s beliefs and knowledge.
Even despite this, Winston does not stop seeing O'Brien as his biggest role model. It
can be argued that Winston loves O’Brien unconditionally, as can be seen in that
Winston has love for O’Brien more than hate for Big Brother and that Winston
admires O’Brien’s double thinking even though he detests it.
