Introduction

In this assignment, I am going to provide the evidence for P1, M1 and D1. I will do this by selecting two
different web sites and write an evaluation of them in which I compare and consider how the principles of
website design have been used to create sites which are creative and perform well.

I will also consider how suitable the sites are for their intended audience and purpose and how they meet
the client’s (the site’s owners) requirements and any positive or negative outcomes.

In the present day, there are millions of websites, but not always correctly designed. A good website
should make the visitor intrigued to read and give a business the best opportunity to have sales. The
elements a web-page designer should consider are colours, white space, arrangements, usability, site
layout, navigation, typography, alignment, clarity, consistency, and simplicity. Some webpages will have a
different target audience therefore, it needs to meet the requirements of the selected audience.

A viewer with different technical and educational abilities should be able to view and navigate through
your website to find what their searching for easily, and not need to go browsing to find a different
website which better suits their needs.

The two websites I have chosen to compare are http://bestkidswebsites.com/ and
http://www.earthpearl.co.uk/ as I can state the positive and negative sides of both of them in depth. The
two sites also have different target audiences, purposes, and designs.

Website 1 and 2 - http://bestkidswebsites.com/ and http://www.earthpearl.co.uk/

Bestkidswebsite.com is a website which assists the user in finding, high-quality educational resources and
appropriate content. Interactive communication is encouraged through various features such as: text-
hyperlinks, buttons, and colourful graphics. This website utilises “principles of design” well as seen with
its great design, purpose and well-organised.

, Earth pearl is a website which sells hand-painted artwork to affluent, senior citizen. The artist has a
passion for painting portraits and crafting jewellery. The site additionally offers the service of
commissioning a custom painting. To enquire about customisable paintings the user will have to contact
the artist.

The organisation in earth pearl is also simplistic but, not as easy to navigate around compared to
Bestkidswesbsites. The main and most important features of the website are eye level so its easily visible
and the categories have drop down sub-categories. The logo is large so it’s almost unmissable. Having an
easily recognisable logo is great for businesses as people can reflect on the memory they have on your
website. The middle section of the webpage is showing off some of the artwork for sale, although the
alignment of the images is overlapping, the end-user must click the image which then redirects them to
the information of that portrait
