The impact of motivational theories on workplace performance and
the event.
Herzberg’s Two-Factor theory of motivation
The impact of Herzberg’s two factor theory on workplace performance are identified two sets of
factors, hygiene factors such as salary and working conditions that can prevent dissatisfaction but do
not motivate, and there are motivators such as recognition, achievement that contribute to job
satisfaction and higher performance. Organizations can enhance workplace performance by not only
addressing hygiene factors to prevent dissatisfaction but also by providing opportunities for
employees to experience motivators that lead to increased job satisfaction and performance.
Herzberg proposed that certain factors (motivators) lead to satisfaction, while others (hygiene
factors) prevent dissatisfaction. For the event, motivators could include the quality of the ESports
competition, engaging key speaker presentations, and interactive activities. Hygiene factors might
include logistical issues and poor event management. The event organizers must ensure hygiene
factors like venue facilities, equipment, and logistics meet expectations. Motivators like the keynote
speakers, tournaments, and interactive sessions will enhance attendee satisfaction, fostering a
positive experience.
CPD can equip organizers with the skills needed to manage both motivators and hygiene factors,
ensuring a well-rounded and satisfying event experience. By addressing hygiene factors and
enhancing motivators, event organizers can contribute to higher satisfaction levels and overall
positive experiences.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs suggests that individuals have five levels
of needs, starting from basic physiological needs to self-actualization.
The Maslow’s theory impact on workplace performance is the theory
that suggests individuals to have a hierarchy of needs, starting with
basic physiological needs and progressing to higher-level needs like
self-actualization. In the workplace, this theory implies that
employees must have their basic needs met before they can be
motivated by higher-order needs. For example, providing a safe and
comfortable working environment addresses the physiological and
safety needs, fostering better performance.
Maslow's Hierarchy suggests that individuals have different needs that influence their behaviour. For
the event, basic needs like safety (ensuring the venue is secure), social needs (networking
opportunities during the event), and esteem needs (recognition of participants, especially winners)
are relevant. The event's success and the engaging activities provided will contribute to fulfilling
higher-level needs, such as social interaction, esteem, and even self-actualization for those
passionate about E-Sports.
