Lab Report Format Expectations
Utilize college level grammar and professional formatting when completing this worksheet.
Submissions without proper formatting, all required photos or sufficient responses will be rejected. Pre-
lab Questions

1. Describe the pathway of blood traveling through the closed system of the circulatory system
starting with the right atrium.
Blood starts in the right atrium and then moves into the right ventricle, where it is pumped to
the lungs to receive oxygen. From the lungs, the blood is pumped into the left atrium and then
the left ventricle. The oxygenated blood then travels through the aorta to reach various
capillaries throughout the body. Finally, the deoxygenated blood returns through the superior
and inferior vena cava to the right atrium, completing the cycle.

2. What are the main resistance vessels of the circulatory system?
The arterioles are the main resistance vessels of the circulatory system. They use smooth muscle
to control blood flow by vasoconstriction or vasodilation.

3. How are they (the resistance vessels you noted in Question 2) controlled?
Arterioles have more smooth muscle, which contracts or relaxes to regulate blood flow to
specific portions of the body.
