H1: Algemene inleiding en overzicht neuroanatomie
Neurofysiologie
Centraal zenuwstelsel: hersenen, hersenstam, ruggenmerg

Perifeer zenuwstelsel: somatisch ZS → sensorisch input en motorisch output
autonoom ZS → organen

→ Sensatie = transformatie van fysische stimuli in elektrische signalen

→ Perceptie = resultaat van selecteren, organiseren en interpreteren van deze info
= persoonlijke interpretatie, niet louter passieve registratie van info door zintuigen

Hoe werking hersenen bestuderen
Wat is basiseenheid? Doorlopend net van hersencellen (reticulum) of individuele cellen

Neuron doctrine: neuronen anatomische en fysiologische basiseenheid van zenuwstelsel
→ werking hersenen terug te brengen tot elektrische activiteit van neuronen

Reductionisme: kan gedrag begrepen worden door uitgebreide kennis van 1/enkele
neuronen? Vb kleurperceptie, depressie, verslaving

Rol van andere celtypes: vb gliacellen? Enkel ondersteunende rol?

Werking hersenen vloeit voort uit:

1. Intrinsieke eigenschappen van neuronen
2. Schakelingen van neuronen met:
o Periferie: receptor-epitheel (huid, netvlies, …)
o Effectororganen (spieren, klieren, …)
o Andere neuronen → belang van netwerken en connecties tussen hersengebieden

 zoogdieren: connecties uniek per individu, niet gedicteerd door genoom (itt. C. elegans):
eerst uitgebreide connecties die tijdens ontwikkeling verfijnen

Gliacellen: rol in werking en ondersteuning van neuronen

o Astrocyten: energie metabolisme van neuronen en regulatie werking synapsen
o Microglia (macrofagen): immuunrespons
o Oligodendrocyten/Schwanncellen in perifeer ZS: geleiding AP
o Ependymcellen: productie hersenvocht
