Focus - The focus of my campaign is honour crime
- Honour crime is a crime which goes unreported and unrecorded, and victims
often don't know that they are a victim of the crime due to the nature of the
communities which honour crimes often happen in. As well as this, there is often
a lack of knowledge surrounding honour crimes and victims don't often know they
are victims.
- This campaign will help to bring awareness to victims and those who are victims
of honour crime and ensure that victims, and people who see honour crime
happening, can report the crime and are able to serve justice to those who are
victims of honour crime.
- This campaign was inspired by Laura Wilson, who was brutally murdered by her
ex-partner (who was muslim), after revealing his horrible past to his mother, and
from Laura telling his parents about their relationship. This brought upon shame
to his family and so killed her in order to restore honour to their family.
Aims - Increase awareness of honour crime to encourage those who are victims to
speak up and report it
Objectives - Produce leaflets which educate people on honour crime in the community of
ethnic minorities. Aim to give out 10,000 leaflets in total. In order to achieve this,
ask the local council to give out leaflets. This ensures it reaches the target
audience of people in ethnic minority communities. Aim to distribute 500 leaflets
per day.
- Produce merchandise to help raise money for honour crime victims so that they
can get the full support they need. Aim to sell 100 hoodies, 100 tote bags and
100 mugs. In order to achieve this, research different manufacturers, and create
a website to sell merchandise on. This ensures that people can buy the
merchandise online. Aim to sell over 50% of products to ensure break even and
profit is made
- Produce social media adverts to highlight the hidden nature of honour collar
crime. Aim to promote the advert to 50,000 people. Use social media analytics to
target people who are aged 16-45 years old. This ensures it reaches the target
audience via social media platforms which likely victims of honour crime may use
(e.g Facebook, Instagram). Deliver adverts to 5,000 people per day.
Justification - I have selected this particular under-reported/hidden crime because there is a
lack of awareness of honour crime and the level of public awareness is extremely
low. There is a lack of awareness within the general public, and a lack of
knowledge and awareness within the ethnic minority communities which honour
crimes happen in. This may be because of a lack of media coverage of honour
crimes, as well as the fact that not many people are aware of the crime
happening due to it being behind closed doors and not being reported to police
and recorded.
- Some statistics to support my justification for the campaign is that only 5% of
cases which get reported and recorded are prosecuted - leaving 95% of cases
with the offenders not getting prosecuted. There have also been 11,000 cases of
honour crime within the UK in the last five years. With the figures of only 5% of
cases leading to prosecution in mind, this evidently highlights how it is important
to educate and inform the general public about honour crime, and to encourage
victims to speak up about their offenders and the crimes against them to help
increase the amount of offenders getting prosecuted.
- A tragic case linked to this crime is Laura Wilson, who was murdered by her
ex-partner (who was muslim), after revealing his horrible past to his mother. This
case proves how jealousy and rage can have a drastic impact on a relationship,
and the added factor or Laura ex-partner’ religion and his beliefs meant that this
, catalysed the murder even more. This highlights how some women may be
fearful whilst in a relationship, and reinforces how honour crimes need more
awareness brought to them
Target - Following the evidence within my justification, I have chosen my target audience
audience to be women who live in ethnic minority backgrounds. This is due to the fact that
women in these minority backgrounds are more likely to become victims of
honour crime due to the communities and behaviour which is perceived as
morally right in these communities. It is often that these women have a lack of
knowledge of honour crime and do not understand that they are able to get
support outside of their communities. There is often a fear of reprisal from victims
as they fear that they cannot seek support due to punishment or consequences
from the offender. This highlights the need to increase the awareness of honour
crime as it is a continuing problem within ehtnic minority background
communities.

condensed information. Even though not all women in my target audience may
pick up and read a leaflet, some people may still read the leaflet who may know
someone who is a victim of domestic abuse. Leaflets can have condensed
information on them, and so it will be easier for victims to find out about the
campaign and seek support through the leaflet if they were to pick one up. By
having an alternative to online methods, which some women may be unable to
access due to possible restrictions from their offenders, this increases the
likelihood of a victim of picking up a leaflet and reading it.

able to be purchased by anyone. The clothing will be available in different sizes
to accommodate everyone in different sizes. The sale of merchandise means that
victims have the choice to buy merchandise or not. It may be likely that victims do
not have the chance to buy merchandise, however it may be likely that people
who follow and support the campaign will buy the merchandise, leading to victims
being able to find out about the campaign through other people wearing and
